Frequently Asked Questions

Want More Specifics?

Below you’ll find some of the most common questions I get from authors so you’ll know what to expect when working with me!

What does your onboarding process look like?

After an author contacts me, I request a sample of their work that is ready for editing. I edit it for free and send it back with a quote for my editing services, at which point an author can decide if my editing style works well for them. This model allows both me and the author to determine if we are a good fit for each other. If the author wants to work together, they can then tell me when to expect their books, and I will put them on my calendar.

Do I have to have a sample edited?

Not necessarily. If I have previously read one of your books, you can choose to skip that step. If you choose to skip having a sample edited before using my editing services, we will move on to the next step of the process (getting you on my calendar).

How often do you post on your blog?

My goal is to post about once a month. You may see them less frequently when life or work gets busy for me. I have a whole list of posts to write up, but posting to my blog isn’t always my first priority.

What is your price point?

My current copyediting rate is $0.008/word. Before working with a new author, I edit a sample of their work (free of charge!) so that I know what kind of editing it needs. This also lets authors see my editing style before committing to using my editing services.

Who is your target client?

My goal as a copy editor is to make copyediting more accessible, especially to authors who are just starting out. My typical clients are authors who have been using friends and other authors to edit their books and are ready to switch to a more thorough editor. I edit mainly fiction books but will also take on editing website copy and short stories as time allows between projects.

What services do you offer?

Most of my clients use my copyediting services, but I also offer proofreading.

What is your timeline for editing?

I limit the number of authors I work with in order to make sure I can fit in all the books my authors write. My turnaround time for editing a book is typically around 2-3 weeks, depending on the length of the book. The more notice an author gives me, the more likely I will be to fit them in during the time they want. Expedited editing is available as needed for an additional fee.
